Here at Crosley we find inspiration from the past, especially the 1950s and 1960s.  And who has the epitome of those golden charm decades?  Marilyn Monroe, of course.  Starting today until August 11th, the last professional images ever taken of Monroe will be up for an online auction at Paddle8 .

The photographs were shot in June 1962, just weeks before her death in August of that same year, for Cosmopolitan Magazine.  The images are being sold by a private collector who acquired the 150 photographs directly from the photographer, George Barris in the 1980s.

Barris and Monroe were close friends before the shoot, so there are several candid shots that show the shy, softer side of Marilyn Monroe.  Each image is signed by Barris and they are estimated to go for $8,000 - $24,000.

I know, that is quite a large amount of money.  But, last year the infamously sheer, crystal-emblazoned gown Monroe wore when she sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to J.F.K. was auctioned for 4.8 million dollars. It was a record-breaking amount of money.  The previous record was 4.6 million dollars for a costume of Monroe’s.

It’s inspiring to think that 55 years after Marilyn Monroe’s death, she is still impacting our culture and the big wallets of a few lucky buyers.
