Call it a Comeback

Call it a Comeback

Lately, television appears to be recycled.  Think "Fuller House" or "Lethal Weapon".  When discussing if a remake has been successful or a total letdown, people get passionate.  Opinions can be polarizing if you hate on a coworker's prepubescent longing to know "does Rory end up with Logan?"

Let's leave those debates in the breakroom and focus on a show that, I think, we all can get on board with: MTV's Unplugged.  If you aren't familiar with the series, here's a glimpse:

Well-known musicians perform their hits and sometimes covers, acoustically.  The show has an intimate setting with a bare-bones vibe.  The simplicity allows the music to be the focus, so a pop princess like Katy Perry is more than just bright lights and hip thrusts. (girl has some pipes)

Unplugged premiered in 1989 with musicians like Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Mariah Carey, Pearl Jam, and Jay-Z performing over two decades.  You can view some of those performances here

Shawn Mendes will be the first musician featured on the September 8th premier.  Mendes is a smart choice for the kickoff.  He was about 10 years old when the series went off-air.  As a young artist, Mendes, will attract a whole new audience.

Call it a reboot, a remake, or a revival...I don't care, as long as the music is raw and real.

The attraction is only natural.
