The successful launch of Explorer I by NASA on February 1, 1958, marked the USA's official entry in the space race. In its early days, satellites were strictly government property. Today, they contribute to the public sector in all areas of communications-including radio. Our partnership with satellite radio leader XM has yielded Crosley Radio's own “first” - the Explorer® I tabletop sound system. This little box has it all, starting with our exclusive AroundSound® system. Three ported speakers provide an incredible "out of the box" sound. Your favorite stations are available, though if you need more choices add XM*, and enjoy over 170 digital radio channels of commercial - free music and premier news, sports, talk, traffic and weather. Use the portable audio ready feature to hook up your MP3 or favorite portable audio device. All of this is packed into a handcrafted wooden cabinet with beveled aluminum accents.

What is AroundSound?
AroundSound is a speaker design and configuration which utilizes a custom designed driver that faces upward to create a listening environment with any dead spaces in the sound.

Does the Explorer I come with XM?
The Explorer I comes XM ready--this means the unit can accommodate XM stations when activated. An antenna and subscription are required to activate.

Can I still play the radio if I don't buy an antenna/subscription?
Yes, all radio and auxiliary functions still operate regardless of the XM function and whether you choose to use it.

Who do I buy the antenna and subscription from?
Directly from XM Radio

How much are the antennas and subscriptions?
Contact XM Radio.

I see that XM offers two antennas-what is the difference?
XM offers the standard Connect & Play antenna. This antenna is plugged into the unit and could be moved between units or radios. For example, you could have an Explorer I receiver at home and one at work and simply unplug an replug the antenna into the unit you want to listen to or which location you at.

How many presets does the Explorer I have?
It comes with 20 presets per mode - 20 AM, 20 FM and 20 XM. The presets must be set using the remote control. However, you can navigate through your programmed presets by using the preset button on the receiver.

Is this a digital or analog radio because I see that is has a tuner knob?
Although the Explorer I comes with a tuning knob, it is still a digital radio and it comes with a PLL tuner.
